Dynamic vs static QR codes: which should you print?
Print the wrong kind of QR code and a typo in the URL means reprinting everything. The right kind you just edit.
The difference
- Static: the destination URL is baked into the code. Change the URL and you must reprint the code.
- Dynamic: the code points to a short redirect you control. Change where it forwards, and every printed code follows — no reprint.
Why dynamic usually wins
Anything you print has a long life and a fixed URL is a liability. A campaign ends, a page moves, a link had a typo — with a static code, the printed run is now wrong forever. A dynamic code turns all of that into a small edit. It also lets you see scan counts, which a static code can't.
Printing once, safely
Bizwax's QR Reactor makes dynamic codes whose destination you can change after printing, so a printed code is never a dead end. If you only ever need a link that will never move, static is fine — but for anything on a flyer, product or sign, dynamic is the safer default.
