An answer without a source is just a claim. When you're asking questions of your own files, the source is the whole point.
Why citations matter here
When you ask AI a general question, you weigh its answer against what you already know. When you ask about your own documents, you often don't know the answer — that's why you asked. Without a citation you can check, you're trusting a summary of a document you haven't verified.
What good grounding looks like
- The answer points to the specific passage or page it used.
- You can open that passage and confirm it says what the answer claims.
- When the document doesn't contain the answer, the tool says so instead of inventing one.
